Australian Tile Council AGM / Conference & Tafe Teachers Workshop ReportOn the 29th & 30th of March the Australian Tile Council held their AGM at the Sebel Pier One in Sydney. The New South Wales division was the host for two days of information education and entertainment.
Day one started at 9am with a welcome from President Rob Walker to the delegates from each state, along with observers and guests.
After a general meeting and reports from State Presidents, the election of office bearers for 2009 was held.
The office bearers for 2009 are listed below

Over the two days, 80 people attended the Conference, either as Life Members (3), Executive Members, State Delegates, National Members (9), Observers, Companions and TAFE Teachers.
The Committees objectives were achieved to provide all attendees the opportunity to not only participate in the Conference but to build upon that ATC spirit developed over many years, in working collectively as a voluntary organization to further the Australian tiling industry in a positive, peaceful and pleasant environment. The Opening dinner and Cocktail Party was well supported by 60 attendees and
the Closing dinner again was well supported by 50 attendees.
The Theme of the Conference was Education and how the Australian Tile Council could work together with all industry players to improve information and Education to all sides of the Tile Industry (Importation, Retail and Tile Fixing)
Topics that were covered included
· Australian Standards
· Apprenticeship training
· What is available from Government in the way of subsides for training
· Retail training

Colin Cass gave a talk on optical Hazing and the problems caused due to insufficient information given to customers when they are purchasing tiles and their expectations of what the end job should look like.
Information was supplied to the meeting on the implementation of a Bench Marking system for tiling, that is to be released by the Australian Tax Office .
More information on the web site soon .
In conjunction with the AGM Tafe teacher’s representatives from all states conducted a two-day workshop to share information and ideas. The tile industry needs to become unified so that we have a national system of education.
At the end of day two an open forum was held that gave everyone who attended the conference (including Tafe teachers and observers) the opportunity to ask questions and have subjects that concerned them discussed and in some cases resolved.
On behalf of the Australian Tile Council I would like to thank NSW for hosting an educational and entertaining 2009 Conference special thanks to Barry Bulmer and his wife Julie for all the work that was put in to make the conference one to remember.
I hope to see every one at next year’s conference in Tasmania.
Yours in the Industry
National President
Robert Walker
