COURSE DESCRIPTION:

What will you learn in the Wall and Floor Tiling course?
This nationally recognised course is for people working in the wall and floor tiling Trade.

You will learn how to lay tiles on a variety of internal and external surfaces including horizontal, vertical, curved, sloping and twisted. You will also learn about waterproofing wet areas, tile types, tile accessories, tile glues, tiling patterns and cement mortars.

Apprentice tiler, licensed tradesperson, self – employed tradesperson small business owner.

MINIMUN ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

There are no formal educational requirements for this program. However prospective students should be apprenticed employed in the Tiling industry . People who are not employed as apprentices, but are working in this area, may be admitted to the program if sufficient places are available . You are required to hold Appropriate employment in the building industry that will support the module content of the course

RECOGNITION:

TAFE recognises skills and knowledge gained through previous studies, the workplace and life experience which may allow you to complete your qualification faster. You may be entitled to recognition that will exempt you from one or more modules, up to 100% of the requirements for a course award. There is no fee for processing recognition applications for current TAFE students. Commercial (fee based) recognition is also available to organisations and individuals.

Do I have to be an apprentice to do the program?
No, but apprentices are given preference if space is limited

What does block release attendance mean?

Tiling is delivered in 7 blocks of 1 week duration spread throughout the year. This
is so country students can attend. It is equivalent to one day per week

I have been laying tiles for a couple of years, do I have to do the whole program

Not necessarily. TAFE Institute can allow for Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL), meaning you can be given recognition for your experience. You
will need to discuss this with the teacher when you apply for entry

Can I do the program of a night time? When do classes start?

No, night attendance is not available for this program. Classes start at the
beginning of each year. This program generally does not have a mid-year intake

WORK PLACEMENT Paid employment under an appropriate industrial arrangement
and access to relevant workplace is a requirement of this course.
